Logo Design- Negative Space

For my capstone project I have been looking at a lot of logo design. After looking at many blogs, personal websites and books I came across this one website called Logo Design Love. Logo Design Love is a website and also a printed book devoted to the design of logos and brand identities. The author of the website is David Airey, a graphic designer in Northern Ireland. He wrote and article titled Negative Space in Logo Design, and in the article he states, “its hard to beat a clever use of negative space in logo design”. I couldn't agree more with David. In the article there is a list a long list of logos that David Airey posted on the website to show how negative space can be effectively used in a logo. All of the images are in back and white, this helps you focus more on the shape the logo takes. The Panda logo is amazing and I would like to create a logo for my capstone that incorporates negative space similar to these logos I have posted.

I have to be honest at first I did not get My Font’s logo!

  2. There is a very pleasing quality behind all of these examples. Negative space and asymmetrical layouts all have the potential to be very beautiful if executed correctly.

  4. Katie: What! and you haven't brought it to class. Shame on you. I've been eyeing that book myself.

On topic though. I too love this site. I also check out another blog on logos call Hi Contrast. hicontrast.blogspot.com/ They do some nice examinations of logos.

  5. i love logos. i agree that negative space can be hard to do in a successful logo (however, not all the time), and I think this deals a little bit with a post awhile back that was about stripping logos of their text to show strength/weakness.

  13. what a impressive blog it really impressed me so much, Company Logo Design is a pictorial representation and it should be designed well and thoughtfully. The miracle of a logo is that it helps viewers to figure out the particular brand of a company.
