The Edible Business Card

business-cards-06

I have decided that my project is going to be an accumulation of all the things that I personally have an access of such as DVDs, VHS tapes, CDS, Shoes, empty water bottles, beanie babies, printed pictures, and a few other things. This accumulation of items will be built up to form a sculpture or a large pile of crap to show how much stuff a person has that is just excess to their existence. If I build a sculpture I’m not sure if I will disassemble the items or leave them whole (I’m not trying to cut up my shoe collection, I may hate wearing them but I love looking at them, they’re just so pretty) and as far as the structure itself it needs more research. But I feel as though a giant pile might be more affective in showing the amount of access stuff.

Also, while stumbling the internet, I have come across a number of sites that talk about creative business cards. I came to this blog called www.youthedesigner.com it has a number of interesting things to look at and get inspiration from as well as jobs and informational things. I came across some interesting creative business cards; I love creative out of the box ones. With the invention of smart phones and the internet more and more people when they receive a business card just import it into their phone or computer and throw away the physical card and some even just google it. One of the cards I found interesting was for Bombay Bakery. I found this idea particularly creative for two reasons, one for those who do just import the information they have a light snack and two the card is promoting a bakery and it’s editable, hopefully it tastes good. Business cards are still important especially for designers even if some of them are just going to get thrown away.

  1. These are fun, but they're all about fun and aren't very practical. You can't really put these in your wallet or carry them in your pocket.

Business cards seem so simple, but anybody in Zack's class right now (or anybody who has made a business card!) will understand they are nothing but frustrating until they are done.

  2. I wouldn't keep those cards for the reasons stated above, but I would definitely remember them.

  3. I would remember them, but then I would eat them. If they were all stale then I would affiliate the bakery with a stale business card cookie. If they were delicious then I would continue to buy from there. (brand loyalty and the 5 senses working here!)

  4. I also would not keep the business cards, but it is a smart idea for the bakery to make them stand out from their competitors.

  5. fun, yes. tasty, maybe. smart, not really. I would definitely remember them though, because they are interactive.

  6. This is super fun, kinda silly but thoughtful in a way too!
Something tells me this was more of a supplementary aspect and that they probably do have a regular business card somewhere if needed.

  7. I like the idea of an edible business card but like Katie said, it's not very practical. Once you eat it, all the information is gone so then you are left with no physical cards or anything that has their information on it. The whole point of a business card to give someone something with their info on it that they can keep and use for future reference, interesting but long-term wise not practical unless they their intent is not for the long-term.

  8. Yum! and cute. But the real card better be somewhere nearby!

  9. They also have meat business cards. I...think I'd rather take the cookie ones, thanks.

One thing that might be interesting is if you took the branded cookie business card, and wrapped it in a sleeve that had the contact info of the company that's being advertised. So, not only do you protect the cookie, but you also give the customer a way to retain contact information about the company.

  10. Very different, would be memorable but once eaten its gone so maybe having a real card to go with it would be good! But its still a cool idea!

  11. I've been thinking a lot about business cards lately for my portfolio class and I never entertained the idea about an edible card! Very cool.

  12. with some tweaking, this concept could be a hit. right now, it feels more of a publicity stunt.

  13. Unique but I too would eat them. So how effective would this be? I wonder if food allergies could be a problem.

  14. This is a very interesting business card. It expresses the company's individuality, creativity, and also is a blunt representation of their preferred area of work and/or design specialty.

  15. Haha, I find this great in theory, but probably not the most practical. Even if exerything went as planned, once eaten, your impression is gone!

  17. I think they are appropriate for the kind of business they are advocating, but true with the lack of practicality.
