“WellMedicated originally started out as a place for me to vent, rant and moan ad nauseum on the topic of web design. The site is a place were Andrew Lindstrom can share his inspirational findings with other creative individuals.”
“Who is responsible for this? That would be me, Andrew Lindstrom. I’m a freelance web designer based in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada. I’ve been designing websites as a hobby for many, many years – but over the last few years I’ve been nothing short of obsessed with the subject.”
“In this the first -- of hopefully many -- artist showcases I’m going to delve into the works of one of my heroes: Saul Bass.”
“What I admire about Saul Bass is not only his amazing talent, but the variety of mediums in which he exercises his talent. The man was a masterful graphic designer creating some of the most original and iconic film posters and company logos out there. He went on to revolutionize the film title sequence and even directed several short films! Is there nothing the guy couldn't’t do?”
“In this showcase I’ll share some of my favorite film posters, logos, graphic design and credit sequences by the master; Saul Bass.”
This is just one of the posts that Andrew talked about and showed examples with the work of Saul Bass. I have always had an interest in his work as well, only because Mark Smith would mention him in discussions and presentations. Above is a movie poster and I thought I would add in one of a few logos that Saul Bass created, which, was for the Girl Scouts. Here is the link to WellMedicated.

I had no idea that he created the Girl Scouts Logo, I was a GS for like 8 years! I also think his work is great, and Mark sure does love the guy.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how Saul Bass's logos have changed over time, here's an example of a few: http://www.logodesignlove.com/saul-bass-logos
ReplyDeleteHe's a great one, no doubt. I admire those guys who can dip into so many different artistic pots.
ReplyDeleteReferencing Katie's link, it's interesting how most of his logos are virtually unchanged in terms of the basic idea. The only real major ones (at least on that list) are Celanese and Quaker (which I think is terrible). Also didn't realize he had created the Girl Scouts logo, which is pretty awesome since I used to be a Girl Scout myself and I've always rather liked the logo.
ReplyDeleteLove Saul Bass and love the website. It never gets old finding a new site to get inspiration from and admire the international talent that surrounds us.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what The Human Factor is, but now I want to see it. Thriller, right?
ReplyDeleteCool! Never knew he designed the Girl Scout logo, makes me wonder what other things he designed that I have seen but don't know he did.
ReplyDeleteI find myself in awe of the people who can do many different aspects of design well. Saul Bass was one of a kind. Great website too, nice find.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tony. That's why I love Saul Bass! So versatile.
ReplyDeleteSaul Bass is wonderful, in fact many designs and layouts from old books from the late 1950's-mid 1960's have very similar styles that are like Saul Bass
ReplyDeleteOoooo I was a girl scout too but only for half a second so I didn't remember the logo. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteSaul Bass is amazing. As one of the lead graphic designers (from our Delicious Designs field trip) said "We are standing on the shoulders of giants".
ReplyDeleteSaul Bass was a man of many hats! I definitely appreciate an artist willing to experiment. It keeps things exciting, and helps the artist grow.
ReplyDeleteGood to see a great designer and the legacy he leaved behind for future designers (like ourselves)!
ReplyDeleteOh the influence of Mark S...it really sticks to you! Now whenever I see Saul Bass' work, I know it before I even ask for the artist.
ReplyDeleteHis stuff is always so memorable. He def made himself known.
ReplyDeleteif i had a dollar for everytime saul bass was mentioned in my classes at depaul, i would have a serious stack of dollars.
ReplyDeleteTruly an interesting page you're having there. Thanks for sharing it with us...Template Design
