Alejandro de Narváez
So I went to the art fair last week and this one artist I saw still keeps popping back into my mind. There was a lot of art there, all of it beautiful but this one particular booth was exactly the type of work I enjoy creating and looking at. The company's name is Galeria Baobab, it is a gallery from Bogata, Columbia and the artist's name is Alejandro de Narváez. His work were these huge oil paintings that had an almost Jackson Pollock feel to them, except the paintings were so colorful. I saw the booth from across the hall and I couldn't see anything else, it was exactly the style and mood that I would love to be able to create, especially for my final project. I loved the way he played with the colors and the brush stroke to blend everything together as a whole while eliciting different emotions from different parts of the piece. His work shown there was completely amazing to me, if I had a few grand lying around I would have bought everything, I thought it was perfect. I put up the pictures I took with my phone at the show, but honestly it doesn't do it justice. It's a whole different experience actually standing in front of it. I also put some other pictures of his work.

I agree Sheri, Narváez is a great painter. Seeing his work makes me think about your Senior Capstone project.
ReplyDeleteHe does have a very expressive sense of color.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting the way that applies that paint to the canvass. It looks like it may not be from a brush. Maybe another instrument?
ReplyDeleteI like that his works have an atmospheric quality to them! The colors are really brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHe is a great Columbian artist, who seems to express his life or surroundings through these vibrant colors.
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool! When I first saw this I immediately related it to your capstone project with color, this is good inspiration for you!
ReplyDeleteThe artist seems to be expressing something through his use of colors and it actually cultivates you. I almost feel like I want to make up a story to go with each one.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the use of color here. So many artists are afraid of being too bright, but it's good to know there are still some out there who aren't afraid to be bold!
ReplyDeletethat is some intense color. they all look so different from each other too.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome. I wish I could paint like that, but I guess the first step is starting. This is inspiring to go paint now!
ReplyDeleteWow. Talk about color. I'm curious to see how your project will turn out!
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of painting from Gulf-area artists that look like this. You might want to look at the Havana Gallery for more inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe last entry reminds me of a much bolder version of Monet. I'm usually not into abstract work, but I really like that particular piece!
