Delicious

Last week for my portfolio class we took a field trip to visit the studio of Delicious Design League. The photo above is just one example of their many amazing poster and campaign designs. The visit was very inspirational for seeing what can come of hard work and dedication. The designers of the studio were very persistent on the fact that paying your dues in the beginning is what will get you where you want to be in the end. Which is something that I'm starting to realize as I enter my last year of undergrad. I used to think that once you graduate you get a job and a nice small design studio and you stay there forever completely happy. The Delicious team talked about how they had to first work long, tiring hours in corporations to get the experience and make the connections they would need to start their own small firm. Even if you don't want to end up in a corporation, they explain that is the best way to begin to establish yourself and get a feel for the field. It was reassuring to hear that even though they didn't start out doing exactly what they wanted in the beginning, that they were able to stick with it and eventually achieve what they were striving for.

  2. I loved Delicious Design League. The work that they had hanging on the walls was so beyond awesome in my opinion. I highly urge anybody who wasn't in the portfolio class field trip to check out their work. It seems like they definitely love what they do and it shows through. If that's the case then I feel like they don't really mind working till 3 am anyways!

  3. I want to raid their bookcase. I could barely contain myself from excusing myself and just spending the time there sifting through their books. Oh yea, the art was fairly awesome too.

  4. I also liked the posters on the wall there but they drove me nuts with the 'you have no passion if you don't work 'til 3 every day' idea that they just kept talking about. I have lots of passion for design, but unfortunately I also like to sleep every so often. I felt the whole visit was pretty discouraging as far as actually going out and getting a good job after school. I understand that we all have to work hard to get where we might strive to be someday, but I think it's also possible to be happy working for a company in-house which everybody we keep talking to is completely against!

  8. I love their wall of posters. I couldn't really find one that I didn't like. I love that they do a bunch of band posters as well because it seems like they allow so much more creative freedom.

  10. I agree with Nina. I feel that even though he was just organizing the very cool magazines I wanted to have that job. Their art work was amazing (in my opinion) and wanted to end up at some place like that in the future!
