I found this artist, Tara Dougans, who is an amazing artist that, to my surprise turns her drawings into actual fashion. Under the collections tab in her portfolio she showcases her drawings of inspiration for a very wacky and unique clothing line. All of her drawings somewhat remind me of Alice In Wonderland and I love seeing them in real life. Just another example of all the possibilities of design and where it can take you. Based on looking at Dougans body of work, she has a good number of drawn characters. I love that she decided to recreate those same characters in real life by showcasing them as fashion shows. It is funny to see the side by side comparison because not only are the clothes the same as the drawing but even the models wearing the outfits resemble who she drew. In all of her illustrations I love the use of the various textures and perspectives of the characters that give flare and originality to her work. Her portfolio expresses what her current interests and inspirations are which is really interesting to read because I think that it is definitely reflected in her work, and shows how important it is to constantly be exposing yourself to new things and aspects of life and culture.
I took a look at Tara Dougans website and her drawings. The example above is interesting. I would like to see her other drawings on her website side by side with fashion models like above to see how they compare.
ReplyDeleteI also took a look at her portfolio, and let me say I can totally see some of her paintings popping up on italian vogue cover! Very creative and almost surrealistic vibe going for some of her paintings. I would also like to see more examples of her works re-created into fashions.
ReplyDeleteThis brings up an interesting idea for those of us who haven't dabbled in fashion design...what else could come to real life from what we've made? For some reason I thought of Julie's crazy robot that she showed last critique and how it would be neat to see it animated and 'alive'.
ReplyDeleteGood to know another direction our degrees can take us.
As a frequent viewer of Project Runway, I have nothing but respect for people who can continually create new and exciting clothing designs.
ReplyDeleteits amazing how close the real clothes look to the paintings. can't really say i like the clothes, but it's cool nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteThey really do remind me of some creepy Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland thing. I guess fashion is one area of design where I never tread, but it is something I can admire!
ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting! Or as my roommate and I would put it...creepy cool.
ReplyDeletei agree with Nina, her drawings are a little creepy but she has a lot of skill and creativity. Where does one wear clothes like these?
ReplyDeleteI also have respect for clothing designers but this is a bit creepy.
ReplyDeleteCreepy...but I think thats why I like it so much :-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I love her dog costume sketches!
ReplyDeleteI also feel that some of these are kinda out there, but that's what high end fashion design is about. I don't understand it but I can appreciate it.
