If you have been in my classes many of you know that a lot of my work deals with Mexico and the issues around it. I came across this card on a bulletin board that was in the Chinese Mutual Aid Association Building. I was so happy to see this there because when most people think of Immigrants they think Latinos and forget about the other immigrants. Anyways, going back to the topic of design, I feel that this is a great way to illustrate how many immigrants feel toward the U.S. Being an immigrant myself I feel that an internal conflict. You love your birth country, but you live in the U.S and consider it your home. No matter how much you love the U.S. your roots are in your country.
I believe that this image plays with the idea that the U.S was founded through immigrants and that we should remember that the U.S roots are immigrants. It is also calling out that Immigrants need rights and instead of raiding immigrants, reform should take place. I don't want to get all political, I am just interpreting the image. I personally love the icon in the middle and feel that it is completely appropriate in regards to the issue it is promoting.
I totally agree! The first Americans immigrated from England.
ReplyDeleteThat logo is really interesting.
The icon reminds me of the poster that you created in Mark's class. Your poster and the icon above are great works and symbolize something close to your heart.
ReplyDeleteI really like your image! Especially the roots that are grown outside of the U.S.Very clever.
ReplyDeleteIt does remind me of the poster that you made, great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great image. I didn't even catch that the tree was the US until after I read the blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good example of effective icon design. I like it!
ReplyDeleteIt is a clever use of imagery.
ReplyDeleteVery strong poster for a very good cause.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design for that tree and the type treatment on the top of the poster. Also I feel that America as a whole has a huge ego and we choose to forget that the country is founded upon immigration, just based on the conversions I have had about it people are not willing to remember it either.
ReplyDeleteLove the U.S. as the leaves in the tree, very clever!
ReplyDeleteTrees are very symbolic of life, history, growth, etc. and are sometimes ineffectively used in design, but I think it's working quite well for this concept.
ReplyDeleteI like the point of view that is being portrayed by this poster
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, people forget that this country was founded by immigrants! This poster has a nice simple way of communicating that.
ReplyDeleteCool use of the tree. I think that cause is great too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty great use of imagery. It really is quite astounding how many white Americans forget that they are all descended from immigrants. In fact, the only folks who have any right to complain about people taking their lands/jobs/whatever are the Amerindians/First Nations folks. There was a T-shirt I saw a while back that cracked me up — it had a picture of some Amerindians with weapons and the caption read: "Department of Homeland Security: Fighting Terrorists Since 1492."
ReplyDeleteHere is a perfect example of how great concept translates into great design!
ReplyDeleteI agree with John. The image in the middle says it all.
ReplyDeleteit is certainly a clever use of imagery!
