Modern-day Surrealism

For those who know me probably also know that I am a huge sucker for outer space themes--primarily, involving lights and stars.  Last year, one of the graduating designers compared my works to an artist by the name of Chuck Anderson.  I had never heard of the artist prior to her mentioning the designer's name.  When I finally "Googled" the artist, I first thought that my designs could never even compare to that of Chuck Anderson's.  While I browsed through his portfolio, I immediately fell in love with his experimentations with color gradients, lights, and star particles.  Many of the landscapes that he designs have a certain Surrealist quality to them that links both our world with space.  I am particularly drawn to those pieces because, in my opinion, they offer optimistic ideals about the future.  One of my favorite quotes of all time is this:  "if space is truly infinite, then there are infinite possibilities."

If you are finished catching up with all of your blogs, you should definitely check out Chuck Anderson's site:  http://www.nopattern.com/about/  He has some really gorgeous works!

  1. I love Surrealism. My all time favorite artist is Salvador Dali! I really like the image you posted. Even though I love Surrealism, I admit I have not tried making a Surrealism piece other than in Electronic Toolbox. But I give you kudos for doing it!

  4. I am completely obsessed with his work, I love everything he does. Especially because he's know for his style of being dreamy and almost cosmic, but he can also create all different types of styles that not are not often seen.

  6. I really adore this piece. There's definitely a very dreamy, fantastical quality about his digital photographs that seems really easy to try and imitate, but I bet it's not. His drawings are really nice, too!

  9. Im not big into this type of work. I prefer full blown abstraction (like Kandinsky) or realism.

  10. It definitely gives the idea of infinite possibilities through the various colors that could even be interchangeable.

  11. His work is beautiful.

I definitely see how he can inspire your aesthetic. I know how much you like white space, but seeing your website idea, etc. makes me think you should really explore black space, and maybe install your website in a dark dark room for the gallery. It could be wonderful.
